Enrollment Procedure
It is important to complete all of the information on the enrollment form.
Students enrolled in school, or those of compulsory school age, must have the enrollment form signed
by the administrator of their local school. The administrator is also responsible for approving the supervisor.
When the enrollment for an online course is received, the student will be assigned a username and
password which will be used to access the online Study Guide. Notification of the username and
password will be sent to the student’s e-mail address. ND CDE reserves the right to reject any student email
address it deems inappropriate or offensive.
Completion Time
A maximum of one year from the date of enrollment is allowed for completion of a one-semester course.
A one-year extension may be granted for a payment of $30.00 per one-semester course.
Supervisors
Unit tests and final examinations must be administered by an approved supervisor.
Supervisors must be approved by the administration of the local school or by ND CDE. Supervisors of
students graduating from the local school need only the approval of the local school official. Supervisors
of students graduating from the North Dakota Center for Distance Education need only the approval of the
ND CDE administration.
The preferred choice for an approved supervisor is a licensed elementary, secondary, or post-secondary
educator. This includes teachers, counselors, administrators, librarians, and college faculty. In
addition, members of the clergy, public librarians, and military education personnel may serve as supervisors.
The primary responsibility of the supervisor is to administer examinations. In addition, supervisors
advise and encourage students, submit lessons and tests to ND CDE, and return evaluated work to the student for review.
Online Access to Student Progress
Student Access
Students may request to have online access to grades to monitor their own progress and to review grades. Check the appropriate
box in the "Student" section of the enrollment form. To request this online access, both the student’s
and parent’s signatures are required to obtain this access.
Supervisor Access
Supervisors may also request to have online access to grades in order to monitor an individual student’s progress. Check
the appropriate box in the "Supervisor" section of the enrollment form. Access will be granted only
to supervisors who have been approved by the local school or ND CDE administration. Parents of
students in a home education setting who have been approved as supervisors may also have online access
to grades. Approval is indicated when the administrator and supervisor have both signed the enrollment form.
Students and supervisors should simply check the box and an account and password
will be generated and promptly sent to the email address provided, along with instructions
on how to access the system. Please remember to include the e-mail address in the space provided on
the enrollment form. It is important for students, parents, and supervisors to keep and maintain this
password in a secure location. If the password is lost, it will be necessary to request a new one.
Course Transfers
To transfer an enrollment from one course to another course, or from one student to another student, a
per-course fee of $30.00 will be charged. Tuition for a course cannot be transferred to another course or
student after one year from the original enrollment date. Also, a course or tuition fee can be transferred
only one time. A $7.00 charge will be assessed for each lesson used or evaluated in the original course
enrollment. There is no charge to transfer from an online version of a course to a print-based version, or vice versa.
