What is the cost of a one-semester course from ND CDE?
The cost of enrolling in a course at ND CDE will depend upon two factors—whether or not the student is a resident of ND and whether or not the student already has the textbook and other required materials for the course (ie: lab kit, CD-ROM).
Here are a couple of examples:
You are an out-of-state student who wants to take English II, First Semester. To find the total cost for the course, you would just need to refer to the “Out-of-State” course cost that is listed. You will see that the course cost is $300. That price includes everything you need to take the course: the study guide, the textbook, the tuition, and the handling fees.
Now, if, for some reason, you don’t need the novel because you already have a copy, you would need to subtract the price of the novel from $300. So, $300 – $7 = $293.
Let’s say that you also want to enroll in Psychology online. Again, turn to the course description page and fi nd the “Out-of-State” course cost. You’ll see that it’s $308. If you don’t have any of the materials for the course, you’ll need to pay the full price and complete the enrollment form accordingly.
When and how do I receive access to my online course?
Within three business days you will receive a username and password via e-mail which you will use to gain access to the online Study Guide material and lesson worksheets.
How much is tuition? What does it cover?
Tuition is $121 per one-semester course for residents and $149 per one-semester course for nonresidents. Tuition covers the teaching services provided by ND CDE resident teachers.
How much is the handling fee? What does it cover?
The handling fee is $29.00 and covers return lesson postage as well as online services such as the granting of online Study Guide access.
What is the Study Guide? Do I need to purchase one?
The Study Guide includes lesson explanations and written work for the student to complete. A Study Guide is required for each print-based or online one-semester course.
Who is the supervisor? Do I need one?
Supervisors are local professionals in the education field who oversee students. Their primary responsibility is to administer examinations. Yes, each student is required to have a local supervisor.
How long does it take to complete a course?
Independent study and distance learning allows students to work at their own pace. Some students will work regularly and may finish quickly; others may take longer to complete a course. Students have one year from the date of enrollment to complete a one-semester course. A one-year extension is allowed for a $35 fee.
Who signs the enrollment form?
The administrator’s signature indicates that the enrollment and supervisor are approved by the local school.
Does ND CDE provide materials and teaching services to home-educated students?
Yes. Although ND CDE is a public distance education high school, our staff works closely with many students who are home-educated. The independent study model of instruction lends itself well to home education since it is selfpaced and individualized.
Who signs the enrollment form for home-educated students?
A school administrator’s signature is not required for home-educated students. ND CDE does require home-educated students to be in compliance with home-education statutes in their state of residence.
What is a site license?
A site license permits access to the ND CDE online courses on the Internet. Schools may purchase a site license and use these courses for individualized instruction, alternative programs, or home education. A site license does not include teaching services.
What is the difference between a print-based and an online Study Guide?
The print-based Study Guide is in paper form. The online Study Guide is accessible and available on the Internet. Although the content is similar, the online Study Guide is often enhanced with audio, video, and links to other relevant web sites.
