High School Diploma

Students may earn an accredited high school diploma through the North Dakota Center for Distance Education. Those students interested in earning a high school diploma from ND CDE should have an official transcript of credits earned elsewhere sent to ND CDE prior to enrolling in a course. Students should also complete the "Diploma Program Application" and submit it to ND CDE.
The North Dakota Center for Distance Education There is a one-time, non-refundable Diploma Program Application fee of $30. This fee covers all transcript evaluations and allows the student to request up to three official transcripts. In addition, the fee covers the issuance of the diploma, the diploma jacket, and mailing the diploma upon graduation.

Graduation Requirements

The North Dakota Center for Distance Education high school requirements are as follows:

Subject

Requirements

English/Language Arts 4 units
Social Studies 3 units
Mathematics 2 units
Lab Sciences 2 units
Physical Education 1 unit
Electives 9 units
Total 21 units
Students desiring to graduate from ND CDE must complete a minimum of one unit (two, one-semester courses) from our program regardless of the number of credits earned at other secondary schools.
One unit each of 9th- and 10th-grade English must be taken as part of the four units required for graduation. Two of the three units required for social studies must be from U.S. History, World History, or American Government.
ND CDE will accept and transfer credits from other accredited secondary schools. Accredited schools include those approved by state departments of education and/or those that maintain regional or national accreditation. An official transcript from the accredited secondary school must be received by ND CDE in order for credits to be transferred. Our academic advisor will then determine the acceptance and transfer of these credits.
Units of credit are expressed in Carnegie units. All ND CDE courses (unless stated otherwise) are onehalf- unit courses and are equivalent to one semester (1/2 credit).
