General Education Credits

North Dakota Center for Distance Education (NDCDE) has partnered with Mayville State University (MaSU) to provide students with the opportunity to earn high school and college credit for the same course. NDCDE has established its own policies on dual credit courses. In addition, MaSU has established policies on dual credit courses. These policies and information on current NDCDE-Mayville dual credit courses currently available are listed below.

Qualifications:

  • For College Algebra: ACT* math subtest score of 21 or greater
  • For College Composition I: ACT* subtest score of 18 or greater
  • For College Composition II: completion of ENGL 110 or equivalent with a C or higher, or ACT subtest score of 27 or greater***
  • Introduction to Education: Limited to juniors and seniors; minimum GPA of 3.0 or by recommendation of a teacher, counselor, or principal

* Students in need of placement testing for MATH or ENGL courses for credit with Mayville State University may alternatively submit Accuplacer scores. If testing is needed, please contact Emily Rice at emily.g.rice@mayvillestate.edu or 701-788-4763 to arrange for testing through Mayville State with Emily, either on campus or over Zoom.

** An ACT math subtest score of 28 or greater will be recorded as MATH 103, graded as Satisfactory, on the Mayville State University transcript upon request to katie.richards.2@mayvillestate.edu.

*** An ACT English subtest score of 27 or greater will be recorded as ENGL 110, graded as Satisfactory, on the Mayville State University transcript upon request to katie.richards.2@mayvillestate.edu

Financial Assistance

The Bank of North Dakota provides financial assistance to North Dakota students who enroll in dual credit courses. Learn more about this program here. If you know you will be applying to the BND for dual credit assistance, please contact the Admissions Office at Mayville State University (MaSU) before filling out the MaSU admissions application. MaSU will provide you with important information you may need as you apply for admissions with them. The Admissions Office may be reached by calling 1-800-437-4104, ext. 34763.

Enrollment and Registration

Both NDCDE and MaSU require students to complete an application to determine their eligibility for dual credit courses. This process begins with students, parents, or schools completing the NDCDE-Mayville State University Dual Credit Inquiry form. This form must be completed before selecting and checking out with one of these courses in the NDCDE store.

Once NDCDE has verified a student is eligible for dual credit, it will provide instructions on completing the MaSU application process. You can also learn more about this process on the MaSU Dual Credit webpage.

  • Course start and end date: 5/20 to 7/28/2024.
  • Last day to enroll: 5/25/24.
  • Last day to drop without a “W,” 5/25/24
  • Last day to drop with a “W,” 7/7/24
