North Dakota SmartLab Facilitator Training (APD3031B)

Description

The North Dakota SmartLab Facilitator Training course will prepare North Dakota’s SmartLab facilitators for working with students in a student-centered, blended instructional setting. Students in the course will learn how to facilitate learning in a project based classroom that blends online curriculum with hands on projects. The learner will examine research in project based assessments, brain based learning, and blended learning. The learner will apply the research discussed in the online portion of the course during the face to face sessions utilizing pedagogy, methods, and assessments inherent to the SmartLab.

Course Objectives

  1. Develop consistent and highly prepared SmartLab facilitators that can facilitate learning in a student-centered learning environment.
  2. Demonstrate how teaching and learning is different in a hands-on, project based learning environment that utilizes blended instruction.
  3. Introduce teachers to blended learning pedagogy, available resources, software, and hardware in a SmartLab.
  4. Provide teachers with the ability to:
    1. Replicate an environment that is student centered, blended, and project based.
    2. Support and engage students in projects.
    3. Utilize performance based assessments for measuring student achievement.

Course Requirements

The student must complete all assignments, assessments, and discussion threads in the online portion of the course with a passing score of 80% or greater. The student must also be in full attendance of both face to face 8-hour training sessions. The student must receive a passing score on the final checklist of learned ND SmartLab facilitator skills.
